2025-26 Vermont Basketball Outlook
Vermont basketball continues to grow its reputation for producing talent that matriculates to high level prep and or college programs. Last year was no different with Abdi Shariff leader of last years state title has made the move to prep, enrolled now at Phelps. While he’s been out of state for several years now, Alex Gordon, South Burlington, has entered his senior year with nationally renowned Brewster Academy in neighboring NH. We continue to monitor Vermont hoopers progress post VPA/NEPSAC and encourage you to reach us on X or Facebook or Contact to drop us a news update on any VT player.
Taking a look at the 2025-26 season there are a handful of juniors, seniors, we think are positioned for great years. Let’s get after it.
Byron Robertson Jr. With the departure of Abdi Shariff and Pascal Munezero, here’s to you Mr. Robertson, its your show now. Robertson has demonstrated ability to guard 92ft as their home games are played at Patrick Gym. A pesky defender with solid IQ. Robertson has been a key to the offense supplying a selfless role as the steady facilitator. Making plays to make others better. With offense from defense and productive off season Robertson will need to produce more than ever before for the Seahorses of Burlington to repeat. He’ll be assisted by co-senior Ben Koh. Robertson has interest from several colleges. A Vermont Basketball Coaches award winner.
Fletcher Finnigan Received some exposure from NERR events this past year. Finnigan who plays for Spaulding High School and Green Mountain Select for AAU and has interest from several schools. A Vermont Basketball Coaches award winner. At 6’4″ with the Durant frame its hard to come up with reasons why he won’t lead the Capital League, perhaps the state, in scoring. Great court awareness, strong passer and excellent defender. Disrupts, deflects shots. If Spaulding is dancing deep into a championship run this year Fletcher will be the ring leader.
Pascal Munezero After winning the state championship in 2024, Munezero announced via social he has since left Burlington High School. Now attending Rice Memorial High School Munzero also plays for Blueprint Basketball during AAU. A Vermont Basketball Coaches award winner. The most naturally talented hooper in the junior class. 0 to blitz in a blink of an eye. Hits the floor as frequent as prime D Wade. Sacrifices body on drives at the rim like its a religious ritual. Rice who graduated three seniors go from 2025 looking uncertain to contenders. All eyes on Rice week 1.
Ben Koh Ben is one of the most underrated basketball players in the state. In a sport with attitudes are contagious Ben has done gymnastics filling a variety of roles for the state champions over the course of his career. Burlington has had the good fortune of his services and this year may well be when Koh demonstrates consistent scoring at a high level. Good defender, spatial awareness and teammate.
Jack Lafayette Has received interest from numerous colleges after finishing the 2024-2025 as 25th in the nation for sophomores in points per per game, per maxpreps.com. The 6’2″ junior guard is ranked as the 11th best combo guard in the New England region. Plays for Peoples Academy and Green Mountain Select. A Vermont Basketball Coaches award winner. Excellent defender and offensive three level scorer. Strong passer, high IQ.
Tej Stewart Tej attends Twinfield and at 6’3″ with a deceptive first step gets to the rim almost at will. A Vermont Basketball Coaches award winner x 2 has the ability to post a double double night in and night out. Consistently knocks down shots off the catch and dribble. Would not be surprised if he doesn’t end up in serious consideration for Gatorade Player of the Year should Twinfield make a mark in the post season.
Paul Comba The 6’0″ lefty has entered the final chapter in his high school career. Playing for South Burlington Wolves and Blueprint Basketball Paul has interest from a number of schools. The good? Speed, control, pick pocket artist. The great? When Paul’s on his unconscious from all over the floor. Able to cover 84ft in a transition instant Paul was key for South Burlington Wolves last year who saw their run end in the semi finals. Having paid his dues its green light city this year and Mr. Comba may just lead the state in points per game. Will be interesting to see what is ran to maximize his offensive bag. Comba will be assisted by a favorite of HooperIndex Mr. Oliver Adibigovich. Standing at 6’8″ the senior be a nice target for Comba to work with this year.
Cooper McCurley The 6’1″ guard from Essex is a three year varsity returner. Having embraced many supporting roles for the Hornets over the past years all signs point to main option territory this year for Cooper. Has demonstrated the ability to defender full court, scoring in transition and knock down the three both off catch and dribble. He’ll have a host of supporting seniors also on the squad who’ve played together for years. Could be a very interesting year for Essex with Cooper leading the show.
Nick Mascatti The 6’4″ big from Williamstown plays AAU for Green Mountain Select. Nick was a Vermont Basketball Coaches Award winner last year. Various schools have expressed interest in Mascatti but he remains unsigned as of the time of the article. While defensively Nick has always made his presence felt moving into the senior role he’ll have the opportunity to show case his game. Shot fakes, pivot step through, patience and strong with the ball. Squares up other bigs and consistently drills the 17ft mid. Often times facing a zone off an entry he will turn quick read and fire away. Able to force defense spacing while on the floor. Will be one to watch this season.
Jackson Hoag A crafty 6ft foot guard by way of Lamoille HS. A combo guard able to handle primary PG duties but also has scoring ability as a two. Jackson is an incredibly hard worker, has a great attitude and is a coaches player. High IQ he’ll execute what you draw up as a floor general. The most under rated point guard in Vermont.
